Crime Updates
Attached here you will find the crime updates from Sgt. Shetterly dating back to 8/8. Summertime has proven difficult to stay regular with posts with vacations on the BPD side as well as vacations from my side. I hope to return to the previously established two updates a week now.
Recent Events in Post 942/Federal Hill Main Street
You may have seen recent videos posted on social media capturing events that have taken place in South Baltimore. Specifically these events are taking place in Post 942 and the Federal Hill Main Street (FHMS) footprint. Attached here is a graphic that some of our community volunteers have created to help show how many 911 calls for service have taken place from the Federal Hill Main Street area YTD. If you are in this area please take time to report things you notice to 311 or 911 (if appropriate). These calls and reports help to build the case for what is needed in this specific area.
At times it can feel like there are no solutions to help address situations like we are seeing in Post 942 and FHMS specifically. However, Sam Cogen (SBNA President) has helped us to identify what is needed as well as how it can be sustained for FHMS. What is needed in the FHMS footprint is a supplemental deployment of highly visible officers. Having officers supplementing the regular patrol would enable us to address smaller issues like illegal parking, impeding traffic and other smaller issues that build into larger issues over time when they are ignored. This is the only way we will be able to ensure that guests from all over the city/region as well as South Baltimore residents will be able to safely enjoy the local businesses in this area. New Orleans has already addressed similar issues in the French Quarter with a plan that could be implemented and sustainable for us as well. If you want to learn more about that you can check it out here. We have been in touch with one of the co-founders and they are open to assisting us in getting something similar off the ground here in South Baltimore.
If you are interested in this particular effort or in something else public safety related within Sector 4 please reply and we will work to get the right people connected to find and implement solutions.
