Block Captain Monthly, October 2023

Block captains and fellow neighborhood enthusiasts,

Bottom Line Up Front: Public safety email drive & Block captain-led neighborhood cleanup Saturday October 21st.

1) Public Safety Improvements: In response to the statistical rise in violent crime over the last several years, widespread concerns about public safety in the neighborhood survey, and the murder on Charles Street last week, our public safety committee is advocating for funding to increase the late-night security presence in the Main Street footprint. You can learn more about the effort and get our elected officials' emails here.

2) Neighborhood Clean-Up!

In response to widespread complaints about trash and cleanliness in our neighborhood survey (second most common concern after crime and safety), we're putting together a Fall clean-up! 9am-12pm on Saturday, 21 October. The clean-up will be predominantly block-based. FHNA will provide tools, gloves, trash bags, coffee, and donuts; block captains just need to provide the neighbors!

Our goals are to:

(a) get rid of all the weeds, leaves, litter in the neighborhood

(b) encourage a sense of ownership and a culture of cleanliness in our shared spaces

(c) build community on the block level

Please RSVP with Lochhanan  please email Locchanan Sreeharikesan or text him at 401-523-7025. Our goal is to have someone on every block for clean-up, so if we don't hear from you by Friday, we'll start asking around for someone who can fill in. Please participate if you can!

3) Other events:

-  Fall bulk trash removal at the corner of Montgomery and William from 9-11am this Saturday

- FHSNA is holding a pumpkin-painting event from 2-4pm this Sunday.

4) I will be delivering Peninsula Posts to all Post-delivering block captains around lunch/brunch on Sunday (ideally before the Ravens start beating Pittsburgh). Please let me know if you'd like to join this group!

5) We'll have our block captain quarterly in November. I'll send out the Google survey in the November monthly email.

Sincerely,

Zac
